Abstract
[edit | edit source]The 1000 Women in Religion WikiProject aspires to improve coverage of women who have shaped our understanding of the world’s religions and wisdom traditions via activism, practice, or scholarship. Women have made crucial contributions but scholars have often failed to document their activities, making it challenging to verify their significance. This talk describes an initiative to publish a series of peer-reviewed edited volumes of biographies of notable women, to provide sufficient secondary sources to meet Wikipedia’s notability requirements for article creation. A global collaborative initiative across multiple regions and Wiki groups, in partnership with individuals and communities, these volumes have a diversity of thematic foci.
Session Outcomes
[edit | edit source]After attending our roundtable, attendees will:
- Understand how Wikipedians view the difference between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources;
- Gain insight into how communities of practice can develop appropriate secondary sources to document neglected topics and figures
- Come away with tips for developing global movements to remedy knowledge gaps in Wikimedia projects
I'm planning to attend this session live!
