Anonymous Registration
[edit source]I have written it somewhere else before and have not received answer I noticed yet. Please enable a partipation at the Wikimania 2022 with only an E-Mailaddress needed for the registration. From my point of view all additional data about participants is not needed to run the event. If people want to mention somewhere else they can do it but it should be not necessary from my point of view. Please tell me what you think about that.--Hogü-456 (talk) 20:31, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Registration is now open. Unfortunately the real name is required and I have to admit that I do not understand why this is needed. --Ameisenigel (talk) 12:36, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- Ameisenigel real name is not required, that field will be used as your display name as stated in the registration form, and can be changed at any time. It wasn't able to be modified on PheedLoop, but feel free to put whatever displays you need in a long chat or if your not able answer it or not name you want in those fields. Email is the only other required field so, in essence, email is the only requirement here. --ELappen (WMF) (talk) 16:38, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification! --Ameisenigel (talk) 17:43, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- ELappen (WMF) Does this mean that the Display name needs to be two words. Or is it possible to replace it with one word later. I think many user names are only one word. I like that you have not asked for more information this year. Have you talked to Pheedloop if they can change the form to make the two Firstname and Lastname not necessary. From my point of view this should be possible to change. For next year I want to suggest that you use for registration a free platform or talk to the page operator of the platform you will use then if it is possible to use OAuth or another kind of authentification to log in with the Wikimediaaccount at the platform.--Hogü-456 (talk) 18:26, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

- Yes unfortunately it is not possible to change either of those fields or reduce to one (we had an at-length discussion about this :) ). You should be able to put a symbol or whatever you'd like for Lastname if that's preferred. And, it would be amazing if we had event registration in our ecosystem using OAuth (as far as I know that's been a long-standing request) but that's a huge undertaking. --ELappen (WMF) (talk) 18:55, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- So I suggest to delete this information from Pheedloop immediately since the event is over. Moreover, I see that the organizers could write anything in the suggestions of those fields, so I don't understand why it wasn't written that it could be a made-up name (note that in some countries it is an crime to enter false data, so it is perfectly normal to expect that now Pheedloop has lot of Wikimedia nicknames and real first and last names, for no reason whatsoever). Moreover see 2021:Present and future#No human identification as default. Valerio Bozzolan (talk) 08:49, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
