From Wikimania

Session title: “Journey Through Wikimedia: Stories That Shape Our World”

Session type: Workshop
Track: Education
Language: en

Join me on an inspiring storytelling adventure that bridges cultures, generations, and Wikimedia projects. In this workshop, we’ll explore the captivating world of folk culture, drawing from the rich tapestry of Wiki Loves Folklore and EthnoWiki initiatives. Whether you’re an educator, a seasoned editor, or simply curious, this session will empower you to become a digital storyteller and contribute to global knowledge. Participants leave with newfound inspiration, cross-cultural connections, and a commitment to share Wikimedia stories. Find an appreciation for storytelling as an educational tool; an inspiration to integrate Wikimedia stories into your teaching or personal projects!

Description

[edit | edit source]

The structure of workshop will include elements like an introduction, interactive activities, Q&A, and case studies will also be presented and discussed as well as a conclusion which I hope will be worked out together. We will work using slides, hand-outs, and storytelling techniques; important links will be gathered and provided to participants. I am going to encourage my group to dive into collaborative tasks, group discussions, storytelling, and role-playing, but also we will use some interactive tools. Maybe we can create an art-installation (bring the postcards from your country!)?

Objectives: Participants will understand the impact of Wikimedia projects in education. Participants will learn practical strategies for integrating Wikipedia into the classroom or cross-generational groups using friendly and interesting materials from ethnographic, cultural resources. Participants will explore case studies of successful educational initiatives based on the local culture and culture of other groups. Participants leave with newfound inspiration, cross-cultural connections, and a commitment to share Wikimedia stories. A diverse and inspirational world of different cultures will bring sense of connection to the global Wikimedia community.

How does your session relate to the event theme, Collaboration of the Open?

Cross-Cultural Collaboration: Participants share Wikimedia stories across borders and generations. By fostering openness and dialogue, my workshop embodies collaboration within the Wikimedia community. Open Knowledge Exchange: Through storytelling, I will try to promote freely accessible knowledge. Participants contribute to Wikimedia’s collaborative ecosystem. In summary, this workshop celebrates openness, inclusivity, and shared narratives

I am Wikipedian since 2015 & I was Education Specialist/ Open Education Manager at Wikimedia Poland. Graduated in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Warsaw. I worked at Polish Humanitarian Action and at the Copernicus Science Center in Warsa. For over 8 years I worked as a museum worker at The National Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw developing #EtnoWiki idea among other things (projects like 'Ritual Year with Wikipedia', 'Ethnography of the Carpathians'). With my WMPL team I have been implementing the new edu-wiki strategy in our organization called WikiSchool, which includes an original pilot project for schools & for the school libraries throughout Poland. I also coordinated the Wikipedia part of the educational project with the National Heritage Institute of Poland, working still on #EthnoWiki activities like regional edit-a-thons in Poland.
