In conjunction with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the webinar highlights the games of global indigenous communities, with the focus of mainstreaming these sports for global application and indigenous community empowerment.

Highlighted games would include arctic games, sumpit, rampanau, Maori games, and many more.

About this event

  • 2-hour programme that consists of presentations on indigenous people’s games, from all over the world.
  • Presentations would also cater to creating awareness over the diversity and wisdom in indigenous peoples’ games.
  • People from multiple backgrounds will be invited to this webinar globally.
  • Part of the World’s Indigenous Peoples Showcase: Demonstrating Multiculturalism
  • Community-organised side event for the Wikimania Conference 2024 in Poland.

Objectives

  • Mainstream local and international indigenous games for global application and indigenous community empowerment.
  • Foster awareness over significance of indigenous games.

Speakers are expected to:

  • Talk about a particular indigenous game, or a set of games within the culture
  • Duration: 15 minutes
  • The content of the speaker's presentation may focus on discussing one or more indigenous games, given it is suitable to the time allocated.

The programme is co-organised by RCE Greater Gombak (International Islamic University Malaysia, Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia, and Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Kuala Lipis) and the UNESCO Chair at York University, in collaboration with the Global RCE Youth network.
